COURSES OFFERED AT WICEN'S EDUCATIONAL SPORTING CENTER, INC.

 

Whether you are a total beginner or have some experience with firearms, there is always more to learn. Wicen's has many NRA Certified Instructors and an NRA Training Counselor to help you increase your knowledge and skills. YOU provide the Attitude and desire to learn. We offer a variety of courses, as well as private coaching. See below for the classes currently offered at Wicen's Educational Sporting Center, Inc. (additional courses, seminars and special events will be added throughout the year).

PISTOL - BEGINNER OR REFRESHER LEVEL 

  • WSR PISTOL COURSE (includes taking your First Shots)

FEE:                    $120.00

LOCATION:          CLASSROOM AND OUTDOOR RANGE

COURSE LENGTH: 4-1/2 to 5 HOURS

REQUIREMENTS:   Students must bring their own pistol and 50 rounds of target ammunition.

DESCRIPTION:     WSR Pistol Course is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type for classes of four or fewer students. Students will learn the NRA's rules for safe gun handling, the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol. Students will take their first shots at the range under the immediate guidance of their instructor.

  • NRA BASIC PISTOL COURSE (covers everything in the 5 hour course listed above + more live fire exercises and knowledge)

FEE:                    $170.00

LOCATION:          CLASSROOM AND OUTDOOR RANGE

COURSE LENGTH: 8 HOURS

REQUIREMENTS:   Students must bring their own pistol and 100 rounds of target ammunition.

DESCRIPTION:     NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting includes: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers AND semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. Students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor.

PISTOL - INTERMEDIATE LEVEL  

  • USCCA - CONCEALED CARRY AND HOME DEFENSE FUNDAMENTALS 

FEE:                    $120.00

LOCATION:          CLASSROOM ONLY

COURSE LENGTH: 5 HOURS

REQUIREMENTS:  Students must be age 21 or older, Experienced and Knowledgable in the safe use of a pistol (this class is NOT for the beginner).

DESCRIPTION:     This is a 5 hour course in the classroom using SIRT (Shot Indicating Reset Trigger) training pistols provided by the Instructor. There is NO LIVE FIRE involved in this class.  This course is for anyone age 21 or older considering owning or carrying a firearm for self-defense. The course is a guide to understanding conflict avoidance and situational awareness; home security and home defense; handgun basics; shooting fundamentals; the physiology of violent encounters; the legal aspects of using deadly force (including knowing what to do in the aftermath); and a guide on gear, gadgets, and ongoing training.

LOCATION:           OUTDOOR RANGE

COURSE LENGTH:  2-1/2 HOURS

REQUIREMENTS:   Student must bring their own pistol and ammunition. 100 target rounds are recommended. 

DESCRIPTION:      Enjoy a 2-1/2 hour private session with a firearms instructor working on specific skills you want to improve. Private Coaching is usually available within 2-3 weeks of the request and is only scheduled on weekdays.

REQUIREMENTS:   Students must bring their own rifle and 100 rounds of ammunition total for the sitting and prone positions.
Student should also bring a pistol calibered rifle for use in the standing position, and 40 rounds of ammunition (instructor may provide this for an additional $15 paid at class)

DESCRIPTION:     NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting Course includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA's rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting and standing positions; cleaning. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.

This course isncludes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific model shotgun at a moving target. Students will learn the NRA's rules for safe gun handling, the particular shotgun model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the shotgun. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet and FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.

REQUIREMENTS:   Students must bring their own shotgun and 100 shotgun shells (size 7-1/2, 8 or 9 shot only).

DESCRIPTION:     NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting Course includes classroom and range time learning how to shoot shotguns at moving targets. Students learn NRA's rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.

SHOTGUN - INTERMEDIATE LEVEL 

  • USCCA - SHOTGUN HOME DEFENSE FUNDAMENTALS

COURSE LENGTH:  5 HOURS

REQUIREMENTS:   Students must be age 21 or older, Experienced and Knowledgable in the safe use of a Shotgun (this class is NOT for the beginner).  Students must bring their own shotgun and 25 shotgun shells, size 7-1/2, 8 or 9 shot only.

DESCRIPTION:      This course is for anyone age 21 or older considering owning a shotgun for potential self-defense purposes. The course is a guide to understanding conflict avoidance and situational awareness; home security and home defense; defensive shotgun basics; shooting fundamentals; the physiology of violent encounters; the legal aspects of using deadly force (including knowing what to do in the aftermath); and a guide on gear, gadgets, and ongoing training.

NRA METALLIC CARTRIDGE RELOADING COURSE

FEE:                    $180.00

LOCATION:          CLASSROOM AND OUTDOOR RANGE

COURSE LENGTH: 8 HOURS

DESCRIPTION:     Learn reloading safety; centerfire cartridge components; using the reloading manual and reloading data; equipment; and the metallic cartridge reloading process. Class includes all materials necessary to provide a hands-on opportunity to reload metallic cartridges for pistols and rifles. You will test your reloaded ammunition at the outdoor range in your firearm. Class is customized so student learns how to assemble ammunition for use in their firearm. Students will receive the NRA Guide to Reloading handbook, the Basic Reloading Student Exam, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and a course completion certificate.
